Quilted Maple, Flame Maple and more wood for guitar bodies and tops available. We often carry rare to find as quarter sawn cuts of these beautiful guitar tops and body blanks. The quarter sawn cut gives distinct growth ring patterns seen on these sets. These sets will look seriously beautiful left natural, or they would be absolutely perfect to use as a canvas for colour staining. When these tops are lacquered, or stained and lacquered then they will really come to life and the quilted figuring will take on that really sought-after holographic effect. We carry maple in all colours, from white all the way through, to slabs and blanks with darker areas on the wood for a different effect. All of our Maple sets, body blanks and tops are fantastic quality materials, and will be perfect to use for high-end guitar and bass projects. Please view all pictures taken from different angles to help show how the grain patterns move and flip from different angles. Global Shipping available. Professionally dried and ready to use. • Black/White Limba Body BlanksBlack and White Limba (sometimes referred to as Korina – an “easier to market” name furnished on Limba by Gibson) is a tree native to tropical west Africa and is a relative newcomer to the western woodworking world (the most famous example of it’s use is probably Gibson’s 1950’s early Explorer and Flying V models) and as such never experienced the over harvesting that has made redwood and mahogany such sought after woods. The downside to this is that it is not uncommon to walk into a lumber yard, ask about Limba, and be met with a blank stare and a muttered “Never heard of it”. As with some of our other less common woods, this is a great shame as it is a great wood suitable for a range of applications. There are two main classifications of limba on the market today: black limba and white limba. There is no difference in the species, the distinction purely being between the colouring of the grain caused by different mineral deposits being absorbed. Black limba is similar to mahogany in weight, hardness and texture and has been used as a substitute by many luthiers and those who favour it’s more contrasting…

Do you offer International Shipping?

Absolutely. We regularly ship our tonewoods to luthiers and builders all over the world. Whether you’re in the United States, EU, or beyond, we ensure your wood is packed with extreme care and shipped via reliable global couriers with full tracking.

We ship globally on a daily basis. Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on your location and the weight of your order. If you have a large order or specific requirements, feel free to contact us for a bespoke quote.

For example orders to the United States are normally delivered in 3-5 business days.

Note that we use our preferred courier as they are proven to deliver quickly and safely, with very few customs issues. With this in mind, we won't change couriers for your order, but we can pack your order and provide weights and dimensions for you to arrange shipping yourself.

Will I pay Tax or Duty on my International Order?

Yes, most of the time. When you import goods (buy from another country) your own countries customs will generally charge you Duty, worked out as % of the total order value. The amount depends on where your order is shipping to and the duty/tax rates set by that country. We do expect our customers to research this themselves as you will be liable to pay any fees directly to customs in your delivery country.

We add your provided contact details to the shipment, so that you receive tracking and customs can contact you directly about any fees.

In the EU, you will need to pay VAT as well. This will NOT be added at checkout and you will need to pay it on import to your country. You can add your VAT number at checkout if you are registered and we will add this to the customs declaration when we are booking your shipment.

In the United States and elsewhere, any other Sales Tax will be due at the time of import and payable by you.

International shipping is always via an express courier unless agreed otherwise. We use this courier as they carry the parcel themselves and handle the customs clearance as well. We get very few issues with all of our international shipping, but please do get in touch if you have any questions.

How did Luthier Wood start?

Find out the origins of Luthier Wood on our About Us page.

Where do you get your woods from and are they ethically sourced?

Luthier Wood buys in from all over the world, but most of our stock is sourced from at home in the UK or imported from the USA. It is very important to us that the wood we sell is ethically sourced, and wont work with suppliers that can’t prove where the wood came from. In his private life John has a huge fascination with natural history and wildlife – show him a picture of some weird and wonderful animal and he’ll be able to tell you what it is and where its from! So conservation is very close to our hearts at Luthier Wood and we specialise in buying in old growth and salvage woods where possible.

Is your wood dry and ready to use?

Yes, all the wood we sell is either air dried or kiln dried. We have no immediate plans to sell wet, or ‘green’ wood, but should we ever do so then it will be made very clear in the sales post for the item.

I am after something specific, can you get it for me?

Luthier Wood has access to some of the finest woods available, and has a large stock that wont currently be on the website. So if you are looking for something in particular then just drop us a message with the details and we’ll be eager to help.

Is it really necessary to have a full beard when becoming a woodworker?

Yes, the beard is where 85% of a woodworkers raw talent comes from, and so growth is encouraged to achieve maximum potential.

Can you cut an item to my specific requirements?

Yes, for a small fee we offer a custom cutting service – just let us know the details and it shall be done!

We have a Machining Services section on our website HERE, but please get in touch HERE if you have specific requirements

How should I store the wood?

All wood sets should be stored carefully, away from heat sources or direct sunlight and in a dry environment.

Can I still use wood that has bark incursions in it?
